Fill a shot glass with ice and dry vermouth. Let it sit while you prepare the rest of the ingredients - this makes the glass icy cold.

When the glass is chilled, ditch the vermouth and the ice - down the sink, or into the next shot glass if you're being stingy. This leaves a nice coating of icy vermouth inside the glass.

Fill the glass with gin (the good stuff, it's not worth using cheapies here). Add one drop (ONE!) of Angostura Bitters.

Cut a strip of lemon peel a couple of inches long. Snap the peel between your fingers, over the top of the glass - you're aiming for a few tiny drops of the lemon oil to float on the surface of the shot.

Down in one, and make another!

Buy a double box of jello (2 packages) of your favorite jello flavor. Boil 1.5 cups of water (720 ml) to a boil. Add both the jello packets to the bowl, then the boiling water. Once the crystals are all dissolved, add 1.5 cups of vodka (720 ml).

If you want to be picky like me, measure out two shots into each PAPER dixie cup. This means every jello shot is actually a shot. 2 hours in the fridge; makes about 15 shots.

PROTIP: Run a knife down the sides of each cup and tear down the seam of the dixie cup for easy extraction.

PROTIP: Liquid jello is sticky. Use napkins.

This one is fun to get the party started and gets 5 people involved. First take the victim and sit them down in a chair. Take a towel and place it across their chest and shoulders like a bib, it can get messy. Get them to lay there head back and open their mouth. The first person dumps in a shot of apple juice, the second person dumps in the shot of vodka, the third person puts a little whipped cream in there, and the last person puts a little bit of cinnamon on top. Then the person closes there mouth, leans forward and shakes it all up in their mouth. Down it goes, it tastes just like apple pie and gets the party going.

This is an agonizing drink, both to prepare and to drink. I got it out of some fancy-pants cocktail book a few years ago, and it's become a standby of sorts for a few of my friends.

You need a tall, skinny glass... sort of an elongated shot glass or cordial glass. The four ingredients are then added in layers. I've found the easiest way to get them to layer are to measure each ingredient out into a liquid measuring cup with a spout, and then pour over the back of a bar spoon into the glass, trying to keep the liquid pouring down in a fan, rather than straight down into the glass (thus mixing with the previous layer). It also helps to make a few at a time... you'll want to be drinking this with friends.

The first layer, at the bottom of the glass, is one part Midori melon liqueur. Second layer is chilled pineapple juice. Third layer is vodka. And the last, top-most layer is Bacardi 151.

Once you've got it all lined up, light the Bacardi and let it burn for a few seconds (no more than 10), and make a quick toast before blowing it out. The idea is to warm up the top of the glass, so there's a nice contrast between toasty, raw 151 proof rum all the way down to cool, refreshing pineapple and a sweet melon finish. If you let it burn too long, you end up with a severely blistered tongue, which no one wants to see.

The idea is to drink it in (to quote the original book) "ONE LUXURIOUS SWALLOW." This is actually really good advice, as the last thing in the world you want is a mouthful of warm 151 and vodka. Well, maybe you want that. It's a free country.
