Prepare a tumbler full of ice then add the vodka, next the Grapefruit juice (for best results, hand-pressed pink grapefruits), next add the salt. I prefer chunky sea salt.

Lore has it this is originally a gin drink, however, I believe the Salty DOG is a Greyhound with salt.

Some places serve it in a highball or collins glass, I prefer a lowball/tumbler and bars that do too!

A Bloody Mary, without the blood.

Add a splash of Worcestershire sauce and a good dose of Tabasco Sauce to a shot glass. Top with chilled vodka, and add lots of cracked black pepper and (preferably Maldon) salt.

If you get it right, you'll have a nice 'scab' of pepper and salt floating on the top of the shot.

Down in one! An eye-watering, yet somehow invigorating drink.

To start, all the liquid ingredients need to be cold. Fill a red wine glass 1/3 full of Spicy Hot V8, a 1/3 with Clamato, and a jigger (or two ;-) ) of vodka. Add a few splashes of Worcestershire and the hot sauce (I recommend Louisiana brand) and teaspoon of olive juice. Heavily salt and pepper the drink before adding the magic ingredient: Korean Chili Garlic Sauce (1/3 of a teaspoon is way more than enough). You can pick this up at any Asian market and most grocery stores in the ethnic foods section. Stir well and garnish with blue cheese stuffed olives, pearl onions, celery, baby corn, or anything else that floats your boat! Enjoy!
