Booze
1 part Stout
Mixers
1 part Cider
Directions
Pour a pilsner glass half full with hard cider. The, holding a soup spoon over the glass, slowly pour the stout over the spoon. This helps keep it from mixing with the cider. Serve separated in layers.

I usually drink it this way, but it might be nicer to "swizzle" it first.

alternate ways to make this drink
Black Adder by jack
A poor man's Black Velveteen. Fill a glass slightly over half full with a stout beer (preferably Guinness). Next, pour in your cider. I prefer Woodchuck's Amber for the drink, but any cider will do.
Black Velvet (AKA Crown Float) by blythed
Pour 2/3 of a pint of Strongbow Cider and let settle. There are several methods for completeing the next (and most tricky) step. If you're working in a bar, they might have the pour spoon tool already. If not, grab a soup spoon (with a wide head) and bend it so that the head is at a 90 degree angle. Anchor that so that the head is resting on the surface of the cider, covering most of the surface. Aim the spout of the Guinness tap directly in the center of the spoon's surface. Very slowly push the tap forward (instead of pulling it back) so that the beer flows out very slowly and minimally. It will hit the surface of the spoon and flow outwards over the edge. Raise the spoon as the surface of the liquid raises, so it is always just on top. If done correctly, the Guinness will settle on top of the cider and there will be a clear a defined line of seperation where the two drinks meet. The Guiness will settle on the top third and will still have a foamy head. This is really cool looking. It make take a few tries to get the technique down completely (if done incorrectly, the two drinks will mix together to form a light brownish color), but it is very neat. This can be done at home, too, but it is trickier. You'll need a clean glass, cider and Guinness from a CAN (not a bottle!!).
