Cut the lemon in 8 pieces, put it on a half wight glass. Add sugar. Smash it into the glass to make the lemon suice mix with the sugar. Add broken ice. Add Cachaca. Add some small pieces of ginger. Shake it! Enjoy.

Mmmm ... we went to fogo de chao yesterday and had a bunch of brazillian meats and a large number of caipirinhas. Their way is just cachaca, limes and sugar ... but who knows how authentic that is. - jacob(966 days ago)

I usually make it with a lime. I've also never made it with ginger, but that sounds pretty tasty. My big recommendation would be to use some kind of "raw" sugar (I prefer Turbinado). It really compliments the edge of most cachacas. I think refined, white sugar just tastes too sweet. This is one of those drinks that usually seems to made made totally wrong in bars...
