Booze
1 part Scotch
Mixers
A splash of Water
Directions
This is the "proper" way to serve and drink a scotch. Ice will numb your tongue effecting the flavors and senses emanating from the drink.

1. Pour scotch to taste. Some measure by "fingers."

2. Mix in a splash of lukewarm water to release the scent of the scotch and enhance the flavor.

3. Sip and enjoy.

bubble yo, no Bowmore love? Heathens, all of you. Laphroaig and Lagavulin are great, without a doubt, but of all the Islays, Bowmore manages to layer the most other flavors on top of the usual peaty/smoky/camp fire flavor of the Islays. Bronx Cheer (582 days ago)

I agree 100%. A splash of water, preferrably spring water from near the distillery. I suggest anything from Laphroaig, Ardbeg or Lagavulin, if you like it strong & flavorful. Highland park is about as perfect a single malt as there is, as well. geoffreygeoffrey (871 days ago)
bubble NO ice cubes. Ice will numb your tongue and you won't be able to detect the subtle variances in the scotches. A “splash” is like a few drops at the most, anything more will dull the taste; lukewarm water will cause the scotch to release its bouquet which in turn enhances the flavor. Leave ice for soda. bubble i'll second the vote for the Talisker. and though you suggest no ice, i have to admit i do like ice with the blended varieties like the one i've fashioned my name after. for single malt though, neat, or with a small amount of water, is definitely the way to go. theinfamousgrouse (905 days ago)
bubble Johnny Walker and other mixes are NOT recommended. Stick with a single malt as opposed to a mix. Much improved! HeadOrange (912 days ago)

If you like peaty malts, try the Talisker, which has a lovely peat, along with a pepper finish and complex flavors. booklegger451 (927 days ago)
bubble I'm a fan of peaty scotches: Laphroaig, Lagavulin... deadhorse (928 days ago)
bubble It's a damn good thing I can't afford to drink them more often :) crunchyk9 (930 days ago)
bubble How about some Scotch Whisky suggestions? I like "The Balvenie 15 year old", and enjoyed "Highland Park" 18 as well as "The Glenlivet" 18 year old. Too bad I cannot afford to drink them more often! otterson (944 days ago)
